Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Tuesday said local government units which are not prepared yet for the inoculation rollout will not receive supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

At the Laging Handa briefing, Galvez pointed out that vaccines should only be given to LGUS when they are prepared to make sure that these will not expire due to mismanagement.

“Hindi namin sila bibigyan ng bakuna hanggang hindi pa sila ready. Ayaw po namin na may masayang na bakuna,” Galvez said.

“Two weeks prior ng deployment, magkakaroon kami ng final check up doon? sa mga LGU po na 'yun,” he added.

According to Galvez, the inoculation rollout against COVID-19 is expected to start by February.?

He pointed out that LGUs have an important role in the vaccination rollout plan, the Philippine National Deployment and Vaccination Plan for COVID-19 Vaccines.

While commending the preparation of Pasig, Manila, Quezon City, and Taguig governments that he had inspected, Galvez advised the LGUs to allocate funds for vaccinators and establish mega-vaccination centers.

“Ang ina-ano ko na lang po sa kanila is isa: Kailangan pondohan po nila yung padagdagan nila ‘yung mga vaccinator,” he said.

“Also, they have to make mega-vaccination centers,” he added.

Galvez said the government’s COVID-19 response officials will also inspect Cebu and Davao as well as other Mindanao areas with their vaccination rollout plans.?— RSJ, GMA News
